  • You will receive important information from us via text message. PLEASE read your text messages for payment information as well as surgery guidelines and arrival times. You can reply to the text messages with any questions you may have.
  • A preoperative nurse will call prior to your surgery to go over specific instructions and complete your medical history questionnaire. You have the option to complete this questionnaire by responding to the text message link sent to you. If you have not heard from the preoperative nurse or if you have questions, please give us a call at 972-528-6090 x17.
  • If you are required to schedule a preoperative clearance appointment with your primary care physician or specialist it is best to schedule this appointment as soon as possible to avoid delaying your surgery.
  • You may be required to stop any blood thinners 5-10 days prior to your surgery. Before stopping your blood thinner, you must speak with your prescribing physician and obtain clearance to stop the medication.
  • Please refrain from taking phentermine for at least 3 days before your surgery. Additionally, avoid weight loss and diabetic injectables such as Ozempic or Mounjaro for at least one week prior to your procedure. Do not take insulin or any other diabetic medications after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Please continue your remaining daily medication regimen. A preoperative nurse from the facility will call you to go over your medication list prior to your surgery.
  • CONTRAINDICATIONS TO THE PROCEDURE: Call our office immediately if you develop any of the following:
    • Active infection
    • If you are taking antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, or antiparasitic medications
    • Fever ≥ 100.3
    • Systolic blood pressure over ≥ 200
    • Diastolic blood pressure over ≥ 100
    • Blood sugar over ≥ 300
    • Significant change in overall health
  • Do not eat or drink anything 10 hours before your arrival time. This includes water, gum, mints, or hard candy. If you are having a colonoscopy, your instructions will be based on your colonoscopy prep time given by your physician.
  • Do not use lotion, oils, or perfume the morning of your procedure.
  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing and flat, slip on shoes.
  • Leave ALL valuables such as jewelry and watches at home. The surgery center is not responsible for them during your stay. If you wear glasses, contacts, or hearing aids, please bring a case for their safe keeping during your procedure.
  • You must arrive 1 hour prior to your scheduled surgery time unless instructed otherwise by North Texas Team Care Surgery Center.
  • Bring your photo ID and current insurance card(s) with you. If you do not bring a photo ID your surgery will be rescheduled.
  • You must have a responsible adult with you to go over discharge instructions and drive you home after your surgery. You CAN NOT leave via Uber, Lyft or other ride share service alone. If you are using one of those options, you must have a responsible adult with you. The only exception to this is medical transportation which must be approved by NTTC Surgery Center prior to your procedure. We recommend you have someone who can stay with you for at least 24 hours following your surgery.
  • Special considerations for children having surgery:
    • We realize that surgery can be frightening for you and your child. The preoperative interview call with a nurse or anesthesia member is a great time to schedule a tour of the facility prior to surgery to ease any fears you both may be experiencing. If your child would like to have a stuffed animal or security blanket for added comfort, we encourage you to bring these items on the day of surgery. Children need to refrain from eating and drinking before surgery. The preoperative nurse or anesthesia will confirm these times with you prior to the child’s procedure date. It is HIGHLY recommended to have another adult, besides the driver, ride with the child in the back seat on the drive home.

Once you check in, a nurse will escort you to the preoperative area, where our team will help prepare you for your surgery. You will meet with a member of the anesthesia team to discuss the type of anesthesia you will be receiving for your procedure. Finally, you will meet with the surgeon to confirm your surgical procedure. Our staff will keep your family and friends informed of your progress and when they will be able to re-join you after the procedure.

  • There are five different categories of sedation and anesthesia: Conscious Sedation, General Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia, Monitored Anesthesia Care, and Local Anesthesia.
  • You will meet with a member of the anesthesia team prior to your surgical procedure for a pre-anesthesia assessment to discuss the type of anesthesia you will be receiving for your procedure and any other anesthetic options that may be available.
  • All surgical procedures and all anesthetics have risks. Every effort will be made by the anesthesia team to minimize these risks.
  • After surgery, you will be moved to the Recovery Area where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home.
  • Although the times will vary, most patients are discharged 45-90 minutes after surgery.
  • Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for your care while recovering at home including pain management, incision care, activity, and diet. In the event of complication/question, please call your surgeon.
  • For the first 24 hours following surgery, do not engage in strenuous activities, do not drink any alcoholic beverages, drive, or make any critical decisions.
  • A nurse from North Texas Team Care Surgery Center will call you within a day or two to evaluate how you are recovering at home.
  • You will be asked to complete a Patient Satisfaction Survey about the care you received while at the facility. It is imperative to our quality of care that you complete this survey so that we may improve in our patient care and/or recognize certain members of our team who went above and beyond in your care while at our facility.
