- As soon as your procedure is scheduled you must go online to onemedicalpassport.com, click on the green register button and complete your medical history questionnaire. If you do not have access to a computer or smart phone with internet capabilities, you may call our office at (972)-528-6090 and a staff member will assist you by phone.
**If you are Spanish speaking there is an option in the upper right-hand corner to translate the medical passport into Spanish.
- You will be contacted by a member of our Preop Team a few days prior to your surgery to go over specific instructions. If you have not heard from the Preop Team or if you have questions, please give us a call at 972-528-6090 x3243.
- You need to schedule a PREOP CLEARANCE appointment with your primary care physician and specialist. It is best to schedule this appointment as soon as possible as this may delay your surgery depending on your PCP requirements.
- You may be required to stop any blood thinners 5-10 days prior to your surgery. Before stopping your blood thinner, you must speak with your prescribing physician and obtain clearance to stop the medication.
- Please continue your remaining daily medication regimen. A preop nurse from the facility will call you to go over your medication list prior to your surgery.
- CONTRAINDICATIONS TO THE PROCEDURE: Call our office immediately if you develop any of the following:
- Active infection
- If you are taking antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, or antiparasitic medications
- Fever ≥ 100.5
- Systolic blood pressure over ≥ 200
- Diastolic blood pressure over ≥ 100
- Blood sugar over ≥ 300
- Significant change in overall health
Day of Surgery
- DO NOT eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to surgery start time. This includes water, gum, mints, or hard candy. If you are having a colonoscopy, your instructions will be based on your colonoscopy prep time given by your physician.
- Do not use lotion, oils, or perfume the morning of your procedure.
- Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing and flat, slip on shoes.
- Leave ALL valuables such as jewelry and watches at home. The surgery center is not responsible for them during your stay. If you wear glasses, contacts, or hearing aids, please bring a case for their safe keeping during your procedure.
- You must arrive 1 hour prior to your scheduled surgery time unless instructed otherwise by our Preop Team.
- Bring your photo ID and current insurance card(s) with you. If you do not bring a photo ID your surgery will be rescheduled.
- You must have a responsible adult with you to go over discharge instructions and drive you home after your surgery. We recommend you have someone who can stay with you for at least 24 hours following your surgery.
- Special considerations for children having surgery:
- We realize that surgery can be frightening for you and your child. The pre-operative interview call with the Preop Team is a great time to schedule a tour of the facility prior to surgery to ease any fears you both may be experiencing. If your child would like to have a stuffed animal or security blanket for added comfort, we encourage you to bring these items on the day of surgery. It is best to have someone along with the driver to help care for the child on the ride home.
- Once you check in, a nurse will escort you to the preoperative area where you will undergo a preoperative assessment including vital signs and starting an IV. You will meet with a member of the anesthesia team to discuss the type of anesthesia you will be receiving for your procedure. Finally, you will meet with the surgeon to confirm your surgical procedure. Our staff will keep your family and friends informed of your progress and when they will be able to re-join you after the procedure.
- There are five different categories of sedation and anesthesia: Conscious Sedation, General Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia, Monitored Anesthesia Care, and Local Anesthesia.
- You will meet with a member of the anesthesia team prior to your surgical procedure for a pre-anesthesia assessment to discuss the type of anesthesia you will be receiving for your procedure and any other anesthetic options that may be available.
- All surgical procedures and all anesthetics have risks. Every effort will be made by the anesthesia team to minimize these risks.
- After surgery, you will be moved to the Recovery Area where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home.
- When you are fully awake, your family will be able to join you.
- Although the times will vary, most patients are discharged 45-90 minutes after surgery.
- Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for your care while recovering at home including pain management, incision care, activity, and diet. In the event of complication/question, please call your surgeon.
- For the first 24 hours following surgery, do not engage in strenuous activities, do not drink any alcoholic beverages, drive, or make any critical decisions.
- A nurse from North Texas Team Care Surgery Center will call you within a day or two to evaluate how you are recovering at home.
- You will be asked to complete a Patient Satisfaction Survey about the care you received while at the facility. It is imperative to our quality of care that you complete this survey so that we may improve in our patient care and/or recognize certain members of our team who went above and beyond in your care while at our facility.
