Surgical procedure to repair a hole or damage to the hernia. An incision is made in the abdomen and a laparoscope is inserted in order to view the hernia. The abdominal cavity is then inflated with carbon dioxide gas to allow space for the surgeon to perform repairs using long instruments. The hole in the hernia is then ‘patched’ with mesh. Staples are often used to fix it to the muscle tissue.
